The 2022 Haas VF-2SS-TR160 is a super-speed 5-axis machining centre that blends small-footprint economy with big-shop capability. Its inline 30 HP direct-drive spindle hits 12 000 RPM, letting aluminium billets vaporise into chips while Inconel still yields under rigid-tapping torque. Travels of 30 inches in X, 16 inches in Y and 20 inches in Z ride on 1 400 inch-per-minute rapids, so tools sprint rather than stroll between features. The TR-160 dual-axis trunnion adds plus-minus 120-degree tilt and 360-degree rotation on a 6 point 3-inch platter, locking parts with 200 foot-pound brake torque and repeatability to 0.001 degree, enabling 3 + 2 drilling on compound angles or full simultaneous sculpting of turbine blades. A 30-station side-mount tool changer swaps cutters in 2.8 seconds chip-to-chip, while 55-gallon flood coolant and through-spindle coolant readiness keep edges keen.
